They say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but this spring, that's exactly what will be available to the residents of Dyffryn Peris!
Hwb Peris is a new project to establish a support hub in Dyffryn Peris, which will be led by Menter Fachwen with support from Partneriaeth Dyffryn Peris.
Thanks to a grant from Cyngor Gwynedd/Gofod Cynnes, one of Hwb Peris' first projects will be 'Prydau Peris' - a free community lunch every Friday between the 30th of January and the 27th of March.
The sessions will be open to everyone - an opportunity to come together as a community to socialise and share a delicious warm lunch with vegetarian and gluten-free options available.
Prydau Peris will start at the Menter Fachwen office, Cwm-y-glo on Friday 30th January, and will then be held in Cwm-y-glo every two weeks. Every other week, when they are not in Cwm-y-glo, Prydau Peris will be at 'pop up' locations across the area, with the first 'pop up' at Institiwt Llanrug on 6th February. Other Prydau peris locations are in the process of being confirmed - to find out more follow Hwb Peris on Facebook or visit the website 'Hwb Events' page www.hwbperis.org
All 'Prydau Peris' sessions will be open between 12-2 aiming to serve food around 12.30. If there is food left over everyone will be welcome to take some food home at the end of the session.
As Siwan Evans, new Hwb Peris officer explains, "We are very grateful to Cyngor Gwynedd for the grant to hold these food sessions. The idea is to create a welcoming and warm space for people to come together and socialise, learning more about what the hub can offer. It's also an opportunity for us to learn what kind of services and activities the community would like to see locally, and if people get a 'taste' for this type of activity - it's possible the hub could look at developing more food projects in the future."
Partneriaeth Dyffryn Peris has been supporting Menter Fachwen on the Hwb Peris project. As Catrin Wager, the Partnership's Development Officer, explains, "Partneriaeth Dyffryn Peris has grwon from the work of the GwyrddNi project, which identified a desire to see a community enterprise in the area, following successfull projects such as Yr Orsaf, Partneriaeth Ogwen and Cwmni Bro Ffestiniog. The partnership was incorporated as a Community Benefit Society on the 1st of December 2025, and there are many exciting things in store for 2026. It is a pleasure to be able to move forward with projects that support the wellbeing of the community, like Prydau Peris. We look forward to getting together informally over a meal, and encourage everyone to come and join us!"
